Create a basic navigation bar

A navigation bar is a group of buttons that provide links to different areas of a website. A navigation bar generally remains the same throughout the site to provide a consistent method of navigation. However, links from the navigation bar can differ to meet the needs of certain pages.

To create a consistent navigation experience, you duplicate button symbols by using symbol instances. If you edit the appearance or functionality of the original symbol, all associated instances automatically update to reflect your changes. (See Symbols.)

  1. Create a button symbol.

  2. Drag an instance (copy) of the symbol from the Document Library panel to the workspace.

  3. Do one of the following to make a copy of the button instance:

    • Select the button instance and select Edit > Clone.

    • Alt-drag (Windows) or Option-drag (Mac OS) the button instance.

  4. Shift-drag a button to align it horizontally or vertically. For more precise control, use the arrow keys to move the instance.

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to create additional button instances.

  6. Select each instance and use the Property inspector to assign it unique text, a URL, and other properties.
